Community Tadbitz: Meet Allie

Kindness is one of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon another. If someone is in need, lend them a helping hand. Do not wait for a thank you. True kindness lies within the act of giving without the expectation of something in return. These words ring true in describing the Community Lunch Box Program and all that it offers our thriving community. Allie Leonard exemplifies this adage in so many ways.

She started working for the CLB two years ago after asking if there were any opportunities to be involved with the program. Her mom, Shannon Leonard, and the staff from E.C.H.O (Empowering Citizens for Health and Opportunity Society) say Allie is always thrilled to go volunteer with the Lunch Box Breakfast Program on Monday mornings. “It makes me feel happy, it’s important that the children’s tummies are full.”

Allie enjoys seeing all the children and working with her co-workers. Some of the students will say hi to her when she is out and about around town. Some of her duties include making toast, slicing cheese, preparing cereal and pouring the milk. Her family and friends are quite supportive in her endeavors to volunteer for the CLB. “They think it’s very good that I volunteer there. I love working with the children. It’s lots of fun.”

With a smile never far away, Allie has a wonderful sense of humour and loves to laugh. She is a social butterfly and loves to be around other people which is why she enjoys volunteering. Allie is also a entrepreneur; she has her own business called “Sugar Mama” where she makes candy bouquets. Since 2013, she has been selling these bouquets at different markets and also online for any occasion. Take a look at www.facebook.com/sugarmamalifeissweet.

Allie loves to swim and is a Special Olympics athlete. She enjoys expressing herself creatively through arts and crafts. Being the social butterfly that Allie is, she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, going out with friends and dancing. Her favorite TV show is “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and she loves the widely popular “Harry Potter” movies.

Allie Leonard ’s infectious enthusiasm for life and helping others will continue to be a great asset for the Community Lunch Box Program as she exemplifies the core message behind the CLB which is to give selflessly and help those in need.
