Community Tadbitz: Meet Bonnie

In today’s hustle and bustle, it is too easy to move through the day disconnected from our capacity as humans to be kind and caring towards others. Choices guide us and define us as individuals in an interwoven world of endless possibilities.

Bonnie Howton made the choice years ago to generously work for the Community Lunch Box Program after Tara Baker asked her to join. She started at St. Mary’s School then went on to Percy Baxter and finally Hilltop High School.

Eager and enthusiastic, Bonnie learned the ins and outs of the Lunch Box Program by doing inventory and shopping. She worked diligently Monday to Friday prepping and baking with Trish Gilmore and other volunteers. Some of the food she helped make included cinnamon buns and banana loaves.

Bonnie left the Lunch Box Program in June 2015 and found work at Boston Pizza as a prep cook in September. She remains an adamant believer and now volunteers for the program. She regularly donates her bottles from home. Bonnie says “It helped me learn - meet new and wonderful people dedicated to the CLB.”

Reliable and dependable are two words that come to mind in describing Bonnie who always has a smile on her face. She loves to laugh and has a witty sense of humour. She is a very vocal person who will tell you exactly what she thinks. It is best to just listen or you may get an earful! She enjoys watching the cooking show “Cake Boss” and spending time with her grandchild. During the summer months Bonnie works at the Snack Shack at Rotary Park. She loves doing puzzles and playing games on her phone when she isn’t busy or has time to kill.

Bonnie will continue to volunteer for and support CLB as it continues to flourish and grow.
